Cistern or water tank is a container to hold water. Often the water tank used to collect rain water. Water tank has a range of capacities from a few liters to thousands of cubic meters.

Water tank in Indonesia are usually used in areas where water from government water company less current flow. Initially, the water is used for many purposes including cooking, irrigation, and washing. Water tank is currently used for irrigation due to concerns over water quality. The current water tank can also be equipped with filters or other water purification methods when water is used for consumption.

Some of the water tank is placed at the top of the house or in a higher place than home, and the water supply flowing into the house. To maintain a clean water supply, water tanks should be kept clean.
